Dear Friends,
The June meeting of our literary circle will take place as planned on

Friday, June 19, 2009; 7 p.m.
in Tierrasanta “Diana” Clubhouse.
5844 Menorca Drive, San Diego, CA 92124.

I apologize for the late announcement, but I finally received from the Teaching Company a set of DVD’s from their series The Great Courses: Literature & English Language which I bought for our circle.  Last night I watched a few lectures from the “History of the World Literature” to sample the course and can’t wait to share with you the pleasure.
Scope:  “The History of the World Literature" explores cross-cultural themes, techniques, and modes of representation over nearly 5,000 years of history.  The focus of the individual lectures is on themes as they are repeated, echoed, and modified through time, but the unifying thread for the course as a whole is the evolution of storytelling.”
We will begin our study of world literature with the Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh – one of the oldest literary works in the world, which has become a template for much of the literature that follows.
