Dear Friends,
Our April meeting will be remembered with the lively, lengthy and passionate discussion of Kapka Kassabova’s immigration story “Street without a Name”, which made us all compare notes, share personal experiences and voice mixed opinions about life in Bulgaria before and after the Communism collapsed. Kudos goes to our teenage guests Lea and Hrissie for their sincere remarks, sharp observations, and contagious patriotism. Bravo, young Californian-Bulgarians!
Thank you all who contributed to our refreshments selection. The pumpkin bread was all natural, low calories, organic whole-wheat goodness, very easy to make. It can also be made in another four variations with bananas, zucchinis, carrots, or apples. By September, hopefully, you would have tasted them all; in the mean time, I will publish the recipe.

1. The Bulgarian poet Hristo Fotev – Vessela; Избрани Стихове2. Bulgarian alphabet, language, and literature – in celebration of May 24, suggested by Katia;
3. “The Delighted States: a book of Novels, Romances & their Unknown Translators” by the young English writer Adam Thirlwell. The book is a stylish history of the world literature. It is also about the novel as an art form, the art of translation, style, and language. – Elizabeth
