I’ve lived with my family in the U.S.A. for 10 years. With the opening of the Bulgarian school in San Diego, made possible thanks to enthusiastic friends who share the same beliefs as me, I started doing what I’ve always loved. The children I work with are very interesting, because in them I discover unexpected aspects of the interplay of the Bulgarian and American cultures. The fact that Bulgarian is their mother tongue, but they actually speak better English makes their instruction very specific and constantly forces me to look for new approaches. One of them is very popular and well accepted in the U.S.: according to the world-renowned Bulgarian scientist Dr. Lozanov language acquisition is facilitated by involvement of the student’s subconscious, brought about by art, music, dance and drama. In language teaching I use fun games, music, visual arts, and enactment of favorite tales. I think I can be helpful in this area with my knowledge and background. I graduated from Sofia University “Sv. Kliment Ohridski” with a major in Bulgarian Philology and have experience as a teacher and journalist in Bulgaria. Here, in the U.S., I completed a two-year program UCSD and have ESL credentials.
